The National Quality Agreement 2020

Agreement

The ANQ National Quality Agreement of 2011 is the first and so far only agreement in the Swiss healthcare sector to which all major stakeholders have signed up. It was negotiated by the service providers’ and health insurers’ associations and the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Health Directors. All hospitals and clinics and every insurer and canton subsequently decided to sign the agreement. It regulates all the relevant aspects of standardised national quality reviews in the inpatient sector, including the tasks, rights, obligations, implementation and funding.

Review plan

The ANQ review plan specifies the quality indicators to be used in connection with the National Quality Agreement. In 2020, the ANQ Board introduced the following exceptional relief measures due to the coronavirus pandemic. Reviews of postoperative wound infections were temporarily suspended although hospitals and clinics could continue to perform them on a voluntary basis. Patient surveys in psychiatry and rehabilitation were postponed until 2021 and the prevalence review for falls and pressure ulcers was cancelled.
